Fish in the Freezer

My geriatric fish, Cupcake, died a few days ago. I found him one night right before bed. I didn't tell Lean because I didn't want it to upset her before bed. I didn't tell her the next day because I didn't want to upset her before school. The next day I didn't want to upset her before a baseball game, then I didn't want to upset her before ballet...on and on.

I couldn't just flush him because we flushed the last fish and it didn't go over very well. I promised her she could bury Cupcake when he died. For the past year everyday has looked like his last so I've tried to prepare her. He's in a near constant comatose state and we have thought he was dead many times, vigorous shaking of his bowl usually brought him around. When I shook the bowl this time a body part flew off. Uh Oh. I did the only thing I could think of to keep him fresh until I can break the news to Lean. I gently wrapped him in foil and placed him in the freezer. But, well she has baseball practice tonight, a ballgame on Saturday, a birthday party on Sunday, Monday she has ballet again......

I hope I've told her before her junior prom comes around.

RIP Cupcake April 2005- April 2008

Say hi to Luca Brasi!

just tell her already, say somthing like
"The time had come to bury cupcake"
or you could always get a new one.

I'd tell her before the game so she can play with inspiration.

"If you don't hit a home run Cupcake is not going to heaven"

You should have told her straight away. That's what I would have done. And flushed it. But then I'm an evil parent...

When I was young I got a goldfish at a fair, in the days when they gave you them in bags. My bag burst in the car on the way home. My parents must have had a fun time cleaning that up...

I'm sure it's scarred me and that I should sue somebody. If only I knew who...

mwahahahaha.

You could say something like:
"Good news/bad news:
Bad-Cupcake has died
Good-We can still eat cupcakes!"

See? It's perfect!!

tin foil? are you serious? you actually touched it and wrapped the little guy/girl in tin foil? what if she gets in the freezer for her frozen ding dong or something else smallish that she wrapped in tin foil and opens up the wrong package to find not a ding dong but CUPCAKE. scarred for life, i say.

I went through so many emotions while reading this post Jean Knee.
First I experienced hilarity. I think it started with the use of the term "geriatric fish". I used to work in a lot of nursing homes. I know how the geriatric are.
Then I went on to sadness when he died.
On to shock and horror when a body part flew off. EWWWWW.
Then we came full circle back to hilarity since he's still in your freezer in aluminum foil. I just hope nobody cooks him while waiting for you to find the right moment!

Oh and when does it get to the point that it's been so long and your daughter still hasn't noticed that he's gone so you just toss him out?
My daughters fish died one morning so I flushed him, cleaned out the tank and put it away and acted like I never knew anything. She still hasn't asked about that fish.

maybe I;ll get lucky. his bowl is still on the counter and since he never moved anyway it looks like he's still there

Aw, cupcake! How very sad! I remember that I had a cute little catfish in a tank that soon became a REALLY big fish and ate all my fish. Mom took him outside and buried him alive in the dirt:( Thanks Mom, that didn't leave a scar!
