Have a question? Just axe Lizzie.

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
And when she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one.

I am now the owner of the original (only one made) Lizzie Borden fairy. She is fabulous and is now hanging in my kitchen. With some skeleton friends. Read below to see what her creator says about this art piece:

"Although Lizzie Borden was acquitted, she was widely believed to be guilty of the hatched murders of her father and stepmother; no one else was ever arrested or tried, and she has remained notorious in American folklore.
This fairy is a very specialized fairy and has many interesting features incorporated into her. I have thought about making her for quite some time. She has vintage sheet music and reproduction newspaper articles from the time of the murders. Inside the box is a repro court drawing of Lizzie's trial.
*My favorite part of this fairy is the cork stopped vial of brick dust gathered from the historic site of the double axe murders of Abby and Andrew Borden. (The proceeds from the sale of the brick dust go toward renovation of the Lizzie Borden house that is currently a bed and breakfast...I have heard is a fantastic place in which to visit)
She has touches of German Glitter, and her skirt is fashioned out of German crepe paper.Fairies are created through a process of many steps. A small slide box with a hanger is attached to her back and it holds a glass vial with cork stopper that contains some brick dust from the actual home of Lizzie Borden.

This is a print of an actual photo of Lizzie in front of the actual house where the murders took place. The house is currently a bed and breakfast. Anyone care to join me for a weekend?

Yes, I'll be there. Is it one of those Bring Your Own Axe parties?

Oooooooh. Look at her with that axe. I pity the fool that comes into your kitchen uninvited.

I should have had one of those when the Hamburglar invaded my apartment.

Do you think she was drinking at the time she gave her mother forty whacks and her father forty-one?

Was she a mean drunk?

after she was found not guilty she bought a lavish house and moved an actress in with her and threw her lavish parties.

Her dad was stingy, bet he's sorry now

apparently there were three or four axes around the house. Better leave yours at home or you'll get strip searched at the airport.

see, I told you it was genuine brick dust (notice the house is made of wood):)

If you get a chance, watch "The Older Sister" from Series 1 of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". It's the Lizzie Borden story with a twist...

Wow. That box is sure purty.

What kind of things do you have to put under your pillow to NOT have this fairy visit?

I meant to tell you the other day that those skeleton friends in your Etsy store are TEH awesome.

love them.

Umm, did you know you are also the proud (I hope) owner of a graphic AND an one-of-a-kind historic item*?

*One-of-a-kind Historic item may not be sold on Ebay.

I'm not sure what kind of fairy she is (I didn't make her) but I'm sure if you leave a smiley face under your pillow it will keep her away

I would never sell my one of a kind historic item. together with my Lizzie Borden House brick dust I have two historic items.

Beware of Etsy, Jean Knee. They want your soul.

And I'm a little confused...is that the brick dust in the box? 'cause...well...it looks like glitter. Which is cool. I had no idea they used to make bricks with glitter in them.

Jean Knee said...

it's not glittery in real life. they sell it in the gift shop at the Lizzie Borden bed & breakfast

you could get your own.

The idea of Lizzie Borden bed & breakfast makes me ;D

I went to Joanns this evening and I saw some crafty stuff, I wondered "What would Jean Knee make with these? Something beautiful I bet."

And that was all.
The end.

I'm scared! I had forgotten all about Lizzie and that little rhyme. I think it would be scary to wake in the middle of the night and forget she is hanging in the house.

I'm such a loser and did not yet send your package because there are some last minute things I want to add to your goodies. Then, something tragic happened to a friend's daughter today and I'm really depressed. I will be a bit late in sending, I'm thinking by Friday. Hope that's o.k.

That is an amazing fairy.

I would NOT, however, stay at a Lizzie Bordon bed and breakfast.

Hmmmm. The possibilities are endless . . .
